PhD Position in Multiscale Mechanics and Materials

Kmomeni's picture

A fully supported Ph.D. position is open immediately in Advanced Hierarchical Materials by Design Lab at the University of Alabama. This role focuses on the multiscale modeling of materials, specifically for the additive manufacturing of metals. The successful candidate will engage in detailed modeling of the additive manufacturing process and the development of novel metal alloys, utilizing techniques such as continuum mechanics, phase-field modeling, CALPHAD simulations, and molecular dynamics models. This opportunity provides a rich, supportive environment for research and innovation in material science, ideal for candidates looking to make significant contributions to the field of additive manufacturing.

During this project, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with NASA Marshall Research Center and Idaho National Lab.

The candidates must have earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, and have an MSc with a solid background in theoretical and computational mechanics. Knowing continuum mechanics, finite element modeling, molecular dynamics simulations, and a programming language is a plus.

The applicants should send the following materials to kmomeni@ua.edu and put Ph.D. Applicant in the subject of the email. In the main body of the email please summarize your background, achievements, motivations, and career objectives.

  • CV (including list related courses, publications, presentations, projects, and GRE/TOEFL scores)
  • Transcripts
  • One representative publication (if applicable)
