A question on UMAT implementation of non-local theory

Hi, friends,

Now, I am implementing the non-local continuum theory in ABAQUS through UMAT programming.

Unfortunately, I have been obstacled by the following question:

On one hand, in non-local continuum theory, the non-local strain of every particular integration point is determined by the global strain field all over the specimen.

On the other hand, in ABAQUS, UMAT is called integration point by integration point. When it comes to every particular integration point, in the UMAT only the strain value on the current integration point is available, leading to a great difficulty in calculating the corresponding non-local strain for this integration point.

My appreciations for any suggestions!

 Hi, Liu

As your comment, UMAT is not appropriate for the implementation of the non-local (strain gradient) model. In this case, the user-element UEL is recommended.

After all, tomorrow is another day...

As we know, the nonlocal damage stiffness matrix is unsymmetric, umat can not be competent for this since the existing element in ABAQUS is symmetric.
