XVIII International Colloquium on Mechanical Fatigue of Metals (ICMFM XVIII) - First announcement

Dear Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to announce the XVIII International Colloquium on Mechanical Fatigue of Metals (ICMFM XVIII), which will take place at the Universidad Laboral in Gijón (Spain), the 5th, 6th and 7th of September of 2016. The event will be organized by the Engineering School of the University of Oviedo.

PhD position on multi-scale modelling of fatigue damage in composites @ Ghent University (Belgium)

The core idea of this project is to develop a consistent multi-scale modelling framework for fatigue damage in unidirectionally reinforced composites. Three scales are distinguished:

1st invitation to VAL 2015 conference discussing effects of variable amplitude loading

Dear iMechanicians,

Let me invite you the 3rd International Conference on Material and Component Performance under Variable Amplitude Loading (VAL 2015) taking place in Prague, Czech Republic in March 23-26, 2015. See the details on its website http://www.val-conf.org.

The conference will discuss among others these primary questions:

Project Associate / PhD Positions: Multiscale Simulation of Nano-Composites for Fatigue & Fracture

Applications are invited for few open positions in the area of
multiscale simulation of fatigue and fracture of advanced alloys and
nano-material based composites. Primary focus of this research is investigation
of fatigue and fracture behavior of nanomaterials and to develope various
constitutive models for continuum, based on large scale atomistic simulations.
Research effort will include development of analysis and design methods toward
improving material/structural behaviour using computer simulation. Interested
candidates should have preferably MTech/ME degree in
mechanical/civil/aerospace/material engineering discipline with good knowledge

Research Associate - Modelling of Crack Growth under Fatigue-Oxidation Conditions

A Research Associate is required to undertake an EPSRC-funded project to model oxidation damage at a crack tip and associated crack growth for nickel alloys.

You will join the vibrant Mechanics of Advanced Materials group at Loughborough (www.lboro.ac.uk/moam) which has gained significant experience in the study of mechanical behaviour of advanced materials.

the relationship between the elastic constant of the metal and the the number of the fatigue cycles?

Is there a relationship between the elastic constant of the metal and the the number of the fatigue cycles? If we can find the relationship of the stand test spesimen, can we use that  relationship to predict the fatigue life of other structures?

Overhead Electrical Conductors

Mechanics of overhead electrical conductors under wind excitation is a complex problem . It is described in detail in  the following book:

EPRI Transmission Line Reference Book: Wind-Induced Conductor Motion. Second Edition. EPRI. Palo Alto, CA. 2009. 1018554.

EPRI : Electric Power Research Institute.

HOW TO APPLY CYCLIC LOADS IN ABAQUS

I've performed a experiment in fatigue.I need to now perform analysis in ABAQUS and validate the results.

MY QUESTION IS - HOW TO APPLY CYCLIC LOADINGS IN ABAQUS,SAY FOR INSTANCE I'VE RUN 60000 CYCLES AT 10 HZ AT A MAXIMUM-MINIMUM LOAD OF 18 KN - 2KN

Fatigue of polymer-supported Ag thin films

The fatigue behavior of Ag films on polyethyleneterephthalate substrates was studied using electrical resistance measurements.
Scanning electron microscopy images showed two types of failure: typical fatigue failure with extrusion–intrusion pairs, and ductile
failure with local necking. Once through-thickness cracks are formed in the metal layer, cracks propagate and the resistance increases abruptly for both failure modes. The effect of adhesion on fatigue life is discussed in terms of concurrent delamination, crack initiation and propagation.
