Dear Colleagues, In the context of the EU Marie Curie ITN Project FULLCOMP, a workshop "Novel Developments in Failure Analysis of Composite Materials and Structures" for PhD students and young researchers will take place on 30-31 July 2018 at the Leibniz Universität Hannover. This workshop presents recent developments in various aspects of failure analysis of composite structures, ranging from material modelling to structural modelling and from testing and identification aspects to numerical analysis.

The Department of Industrial Engineering, The University of Trento (Italy) opened a PhD position on multifunctional electro-mechanical transducers based on dielectric liquids and electro-active polymers (EAPs), namely liquid-based EAPs (LEAPs).

This is a gentle reminder that abstracts are due on July 23rd for presentation only.  Please consider submitting abstracts to our topic on the Mechanics of Soft Materials (Track 12-1) one of the most active areas in the ASME!  Some of our planned sessions are:

12-1 Mechanics of Soft Materials

A model for the mechanics of an elastic solid, reinforced with bidirectional fibers is presented in finite plane elastostatics. The fiber’s resistance to stretch and flexure are accounted for with variational computations of first and second gradient of deformations, respectively. Within the framework of strain-gradient elasticity, the Euler equation and necessary boundary conditions are formulated. A rigorous derivation of the corresponding linear theory is also developed from which, a complete analytical solution is obtained for small deformations superposed on large.

Research Area #1:
Theoretical modeling and molecular dynamics simulations on (1) the interaction between nanomaterials and cell membranes, (2) endocytosis/phagocytosis, (3) cell migration.

Research Area #2:
Theoretical modeling and computational simulations on the mechanics of (1) polymer capsules and (2) architectured materials in engineering and biology.

The Institute of Construction and Building Materials (chair Prof. Dr.ir. Eddie Koenders, TU Darmstadt, Germany) is offering to support postdoc researchers with their high-quality application. The postdoctoral fellow should be primarily involved in numerical modeling of building materials. Experimental analyses of the materials (microstructure) characterizations to be used for model validation/calibration purposes could be included as well.
