PhD Positions Available (up to 2) on Fatigue Resistance of Bone
Hello all,
As is my understanding that, in analytical models such as "Kendall Peeling Model", when they talk about peeling angle it is the angle at which the peeling force is applied (or am I wrong?). But when it comes to FE analysis, if we displace one end of the film at an angle by applying displacement boundary conditions on that end, the resulting forces are not along the same direction of the displacements. So, I am confused as to how to compare the FE results with that of the analytical models.
Thank you.
The use of 3D printed metal structures is taking a very fast ramp-up in industry. General Electric has demonstrated the possibility of printing titanium fuel injectors for their LEAP engine, EADS has printed a nacelle hinge bracket for the Airbus A320, Boeing is printing plastic inlet ducts for high-altitude aircrafts, hip implants and other prosthetics are exploiting the design freedom of additive manufacturing (AM),...
Composites are used more and more as structural components in aerospace industry, automotive sector, wind energy applications,… As a consequence, the loads on those composite components are much higher than for secondary components, and can lead to fatigue damage in the composite part. Moreover, the fatigue behaviour of fibre-reinforced composites is much more complex than that of metals, because of the many different fibre/polymer combinations, the heterogeneous nature of the composite, the anisotropic behaviour of the composite and the multitude of damage mechanisms.

A 2 years post Doctoral position is avalaible in France, on material science numerical modeling fields. This is a join project between Univ. Lille (UMET lab), Paris 13 (LSPM lab), CEA (IRFM lab) and Marseille univ. (PIIM lab).
The present postdoc subject is focused on the modeling of the interactions between impurities (H, He...) and tungsten.
A Ph.D. position is available at Villanova University, Department of Mechanical Engineering, to conduct numerical simulations of biological and physiological flows. Financial support for tuition and stipend will be provided. The ideal candidate is expected to have a strong background in numerical methods and programming skills. Previous in-house code development experience is strongly preferred. The candidate is expected to start in spring/fall 2019, but the highly qualified candidate is also welcome to begin in fall 2018.
