This paper describes the formulations for the viscoplasticity of metals based on the Chaboche and Delobelle model. The implementations of the viscoplastic models were detailed herein and then implemented via user subroutines for material models (UMAT) in ABAQUS. Two typical metals, i.e., 316 Stainless Steel and Zircaloy-4, were chosen as examples and their viscoplastic behaviors were captured. Numerical simulations are compared to reported experiments in order to validate the models and the UMAT codes.
1 funded PhD position is available in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Temple University. One research focus is on the design of architected composite structures for 3D printing. More broadly, the student will be exposed to computational materials and mechanics of energy, nano/bio, and engineering materials. The student will have opportunities to work with experimentalists and data scientists to generate high-impact research works. Temple University is located in Philadelphia, the sixth-most populous U.S.
During next week, on September 14-15, we hold a pyLife workshop at the FME Czech Technical University in Prague, Czechia. pyLife is a Python-based open-source library built previously mostly by colleagues from Bosch to deal with the fatigue life estimation (see https://github.com/boschresearch/pylife).
