To the Editors of EML

Dear Editors,

The first step of starting EML looks promising and with the help of academic people in this community, I think EML has generated enough heat with lots of interesting view points.

We all know that there has been lots of discussion in the imechanica community regarding open source journals, had any one thought about making EML fully open source?.

Thanks and Regards,

TAHOE open source FEM code

Hi I hope some users are working on the open source FEM code TAHOE.  The link from sandia National Laboratories (http://tahoe.ca.sandia.gov/) to download the software is not working. I got the tahoe 1.2 .tgz from sourceforge.net. But I am unable to create the executable in linux as it is displaying some error. If any one has compiled executable I kindly request you to post it.

A tool to help in your Literature Survey

Dear All,

There is an excellent tool called Mendeley that can be freely downloaded from (www.mendeley.com). It helps you in organizing the literature collection and  in optimizing the literature review process.

Obtaining Stress Triaxiality in ABAQUS

Hi ,

The latest versions of ABAQUS (6.8 & 6.9) gives an option to obtain the stress triaxiality at the element integration point with the input file command TRIAX. Does any one tried to use this? I used this in my input file but unable to find the respective variable in the .odb file to plot the Triaxiality contour.

Possibility of modifying the tangential stifness matrix using external subroutines in abaqus

Hi,

I am working on implementation of non local damage mechanics model in abaqus using  external subroutines, But in that case I have to modify the stifness matrix by adding the newly formed nonlocal stifness,  Out of the available external subroutine options in abaqus documentation if any one gives the option to modify the tangential stifness matrix Please help me in the same.

Thermal Ratcheting in Cylindrical tubes

Hi ,

Due to  Thermal ratcheting in cylindrical pipes carrying hot fluids that are used in nuclear applications, the pipe bulges. I am about to start a project to study why this bulge comes and how to rectify it. It would be very helpful to me if  some of you can give your valuable suggestions and references in the area of Thermal Ratcheting in pipes.

Warning messages related to negative eigen values while using Abaqus Standard

Hi all,

I am working on simulation of necking in a uniaxial tension test using sheet specimens of 1 mm sheet thickness. I have given stress strain data upto a plastic strain of 1 , I am using 4 elements in the thickness direction of the sheet. My job is able to complete but with lot of warning messages as follows:

1) The strain increment has exceeded fifty times the strain to cause first yield at 286 points

2) The system matrix has 174 negative eigenvalues.

How to model the contact in a Pile soil Interaction problem using ABAQUS

Hi can anyone please find me a way for modeling pile soil interaction problem using abaqus. Please emphasis on the modeling aspects of contact between pile and soil(clay)...

Thanks in advance

How to obtain the exact true stress true strain curve from tensile test

Hi,

The data obtained from tensile test is not reliable after the point of maximum load as neck initiates and triaxial state of stress develops. There is lot of literature in this regard, Can anyone suggest a good method to obtain the exact load disp curve after necking.
