Opening at Harvard Medical School on Device Characterization & Development

The Traverso Laboratory is seeking a mechanical/biomedical reseach engineer to join the team focused on the development of novel gastrointestinal (GI) devices for treatment of major diseases. This includes technologies such as drug delivery systems, smart pills and stents, soft actuators, and ingestible electronics. The ideal candidate will have experience with designing and analyzing mechanical systems and materials for biological application.

Research Engineer - Opening at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School on Biomedical Device Development

Our lab is currently developing the next generation of biomedical devices for treatment of major diseases. This includes technologies such as drug delivery systems, smart pills and stents, soft actuators, and ingestible electronics for sensing and monitoring. These disruptive technologies will impact the lives of many, helping treat chronic illnesses, minimize side effects, and improve patient compliance for long and cumbersome treatment regimens.

Opening at MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering on Biomedical Device Development

The Traverso Laboratory is seeking a PhD-level mechanical/biomedical engineer to join the team focused on the development of novel gastrointestinal devices for treatment of major diseases. This includes technologies such as drug delivery systems, smart pills and stents, soft actuators, and ingestible electronics. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing and analyzing mechanical systems and materials for biological application.

New Article in Science Translational Medicine: Application of Mechanical Metamaterials in Medicine

Abstract: We hypothesized that ingested warm fluids could act as triggers for biomedical devices. We investigated heat dissipation throughout the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract by administering warm (55°C) water to pigs and identified two zones in which thermal actuation could be applied: esophageal (actuation through warm water ingestion) and extra-esophageal (protected from ingestion of warm liquids and actuatable by endoscopically administered warm fluids).
