Samantha Daly is the recipient of the 2015 Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

It gives me great pleasure to announce the outcome of the 2015 competition for the Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty. This award is given annually to rapidly emerging junior faculty who exemplify the creative use and development of mechanics. The intent of the award is to promote the field of mechanics, especially among young researchers. The selection committee consisted of: K. Ravi-chandar (UT Austin), Huajian Gao (Brown University), G. Ravichandran (Caltech), Roger Fosdick (Minnesota University), and Yonggang Huang (Northwestern University).

A short course on "stability analysis and bifurcation theory" by Ryan Elliott

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

With a growing interest in soft materials, stability and bifurcation analysis is re-emerging to be a critical topic for mechanicians. There are some excellent books out there but most tend to focus on finite dimensional systems rather than (continuous) infinite dimensional systems which are of most interest to mechanicians. In general, much of the modern developments on this topic are scattered across journal papers and perhaps there are not too many pedagogical resources for beginners.

Professor JN Reddy is the 2016 recepient of Prager Medal and Professor Gang Chen will receive the 2016 Eringen Medal

Professor J.N. Reddy, of Texas A&M Univeristy, has been selected as the recipient of the 2016 Society of Engineering Science Prager Medal. The prize is awarded for outstanding research contributions in either theoretical or experimental Solid Mechanics or both.

Teng Li wins the 2016 SES Young Investigator Medal

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

It is my pleasure to announce that Teng Li, of the University of Maryland at College Park, has been selected as the recipient of the 2016 Society of Engineering Science Young Investigator Medal.

The prize is awarded to a young researcher (within 10 years after PhD at the time of nomination submission) in his or her ascendancy whose work has already had an impact in his/her field within Engineering Science.

Call for Nominations for the Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

It is my pleasure to solicit nominations for the "Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty". This award, launched in 2012, is given annually to rapidly emerging junior faculty who exemplify the creative use and development of mechanics. The intent of the award is to promote the field of mechanics, especially among young researchers. While interdisciplinary work that bridges mechanics with physics, chemistry, biology and other disciplines is encouraged, the ideal awardee will demonstrate clear inspiration from mechanics in his/her research.

Faculty Opening: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor – Experimental Biomechanics, Mechanobiology and Biophysics

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston (UH) invites
applications for tenure-track or tenured faculty position, at all levels, beginning Fall 2015 or later.
Successful candidates are expected to establish an internationally recognized
dynamic research program in the area of experimental biomechanics and
mechanobiology. Special preference would be given to those pursuing cellular
level and/or single molecule studies of living systems with emphasis on
healthcare applications.
