Differences of various strain measures

Submitted by Upasara Wulung on

For large deformation, we have various deformation measures such as Green-Lagrange tensor, Almansi strain tensor, left Cauchy-Green deformation tensor, and right Cauchy-Green deformation tensor. Appreciate very much any explanation in respect to physical differences of those measures, why they are necessary, conditions where one is more accurate than another! Thank you.

measurements of the 9 elastic constants of an orthotropic composite

Submitted by Gao Yunxin on

Hi, it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could tell me the methods to measure the elastic constants of an orthotropic composite (3D). Can we measure one single modulus by one specific stress state? What is the efficient way to do the test? Any information related to this test is appreciated.

Thanks and regards

modeling simply supported beam in ansys

Submitted by Dhanashri Joglekar on

Hi,

I am modeling a simply supported beam in ansys using a plane 183 element. In this case (A two dimensional beam model) how should I give the B.C.s? Should I apply B.C.s to

1)  the mid node on the edge of beam? or

2) to the entire edge? or

3)  just to the bottom node?

according to me the first choise seems OK. But the results are not satisfactotry. plz help.

Dhanashri.

Several month ago I login a account ,then writen my fist blog. But I can not think back my login email,so I have to login with a new email. In the last months ,Most of time was spend in program. My Boss except me to get repetition of Werner's work --computer simulation of dunes. Now I get work finished. It's amazing and excited.

Solid elastic sphere impact with rigid flat surface

Submitted by abeed on

i am a student. I would like to simulate impact of an elastic solid ball with rigid flat surface, I do not know how to create the best mesh for the ball so i obtain good results with ansys LS Dyna (drop test modue). of course there are some advice in DTM like avoiding tetrahedron or sharp edges, ... etc. please help me i think a ball meshed with brick element produce better results but, how can one mesh the ball entirely with only  bricks (no tetrahedron)
