cohesive element definition in ABAQUS

Submitted by roodge on

Hi there,

I am sure a lot of you have been using ABAQUS to define cohesive elements. I have seen a lot of forums here and a lot of them specified the Alfano 2001 paper as a great reference. Here is the title of the paper incase anyone is wondering which paper:

G. Alfano and M.A. Crisfield, Finite element interface models for the delamination analysis of laminated composites: mechanical and computational issues, International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering 50 (2001), pp. 1701–1736.

Novel discretization techniques for moving discontinuities and singularities

Submitted by Stephane Bordas on

Dear Colleagues,

The next *WCCM 2010* (World Congress in Computational Mechanics)

Conference will be held in Sydney (AUSTRALIA) on July 19 - 23, 2010.

Within this conference, Stephane Bordas and myself are organizing a

minisymposium dedicated to ...

"Novel discretization techniques for moving discontinuities and

singularities". You can download some explanatory text on the topics

and methods in the file uploaded to the "files" part of this group. We

J-Integral test

Submitted by agpkd2001 on

HI All,

i am doing my masters and my thesis is about pipeline integrity. In my thesis, we did J-Integral test for our pipes(20'diameter and 5.7 mm thicjness) after getting results ,according to ASTM we should draw 0.2 line to find J0.2 and the value which i got is around 200 kj/m2 but as you know for pipeline materilas the J should be around 120 kj/m2 ,now i wonder to know if there is any other way for calculating j-integral for pipelines? we also run charpy test and again i am wondering to know if there is any way for corrolating chary to JIC ?

thanks,

ali

ASME Applied Mechanics Division Seeks Nominations for Awards

You can download a pdf file of this announcement.

The Applied Mechanics Division, of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, seeks nominations for the awards listed below. All the awards are international.  Neither the nominee nor the nominator need be a member of the ASME.  Further descriptions of the awards are given at http://divisions.asme.org/amd/Honors_Awards.cfm.

Continuum modeling of radiation defects and mechanical properties

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I am modeling irradiated zirconium using ABAQUS

I am looking for a UMAT that has the HCP stucture in it (slip systems....)

Besides I need to incorporate the damage inside my model  (UMAT FILE)

and then I will do indentation on my sample to get mechanical properties.

If anyone has ideas or even any UMAT that is related to damage or HCP structure, I would appreciate his help

Thanks

Elias

Tenure track positions at Halmstad University

Submitted by thorsteinn_rog… on

Halmstad University (Sweden) is looking for young researchers to join our research groups in embedded and intelligent systems, specifically for intelligent vehicles in joint work with Volvo Technology in Gothenburg. Two positions are currently open: one with a focus on vehicle diagnostics, maintenance and uptime, and one with a focus on autonomous vehicles.

Looking for a PhD student

Submitted by Carl Frick on

A Ph.D. position has recently become available in my research group (www.eng.uwyo.edu/mechanical/research/frick/), to explore thermo-mechanical
behavior of shape memory polymers for biomedical applications.  A
strong candidate with a M.S. or B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering,
Materials Science, or a related discipline is required.  A good
academic record, a clear interest in experimental sciences, and an
enthusiasm to conduct outstanding research are the only prerequisites.
