matlab code for 3D element
i have problem in writing matlab code for 3D element to find electric potential at each node
i have the tool surface and workpiece surface and i have to find electric potential in the gap b/w tool and workpiece, for that i assume it as a solid and i took the laplaces equation to find potential i.e
(∂φ/∂x)2 + (∂φ/∂y)2+ (∂φ/∂z)2=0
Bergstroem Boyce Model - inelastic part
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has experience in implementing the Bergstroem-Boyce Model (Constitutive modeling of the time-dependent and cyclic loading of elastimers and application to soft biological tissue, 2001)? I am struggling with the implementation of the viscoplastic part (Network B) of the model:
Help with parametric modelling
I want to perform a parametric study, where the geometry of
an object is varied. However, the only catch is that I need to be able to do
this by parametrizing the input file. I have given an example below to more
clearly explain, what I am trying to say.
Let’s just say i have a cube, and i want to define the
distance between two opposite faces by a parameter called 'length', with a value
of 20mm. I know that this would be written in the input file as:
*PARAMETER
length = 20.
METAL CUTTING SIMULATION USING DEFORM 2D
Dear All,
I am working on the simulation of the metal cutting process using DEFORM 2D.I need some
guidance on the software usage. How do we vary the feed rate / cutting speed for different
operations. Can you help.I am pursuing my PhD currently.Do you have a working manual of DEFORM 2D for metal cutting.

NTVDM CPU has encoutnered an illegal instruction
Hi,
I'v been using the Abaqus command window to run my jobs without any problems.
Today, however, I suddenly got the following message:
Intel Visual Fortran Compiler 9.1 Build Environment for 32-bit applications - abaqus job=eightchain user=eightchain_Jaumann
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:117a IP:0204 OP:63 65 6c 27 3a Choose 'Close' to terminate the application
The header of the message says: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
Has anyone had a similar problem before???
Thanks,
Applying torsion in Abaqus 6.7
Hello everyone.
I need to apply a torsional load to the top face of a cylinder. I try doing this but my analysis doesnt run. I am using Abaqus 6.7 EF-1.
Can anyone help?
whirling of shafts
Hello,
I am doing a literature search on this topic. Particularly, I am interested in existing devices and techniques that are used in academia and industry to 1) avoid shaft whirl in rotating machinery under perturbed loads (e.g. rotor systems), 2) to come out of whirling mode if shaft starts whirling, 3) other techniques related to stabilizing shafts in general to reduce the resulting vibrations.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Results of our academic investigation of the I-35W bridge collapse
I attach an essay we wrote for a book that will be published by University of Minnesota Press titled "The city, the river, the bridge." The essay is a transcription of part of a public lecture I gave on infrastructure and on the bridge collapse.
After the bridge collapse there were several posts on Imechanica that included speculation about the cause of the collapse, including fatigue crack growth, lack of redundancy, etc.. Our investigation determined the collapse was a result of an undersized gusset plate that reached its plastic limit load.
