It is with pleasure that Elsevier and the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics jointly announce the award of the 2016 Rodney Hill Prize for contributions to the field of Solid Mechanics to Dr. Raymond Ogden of the University of Glasgow. The prize will be presented to Dr. Ogden at the 2016 International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics to be held in Montreal, Canada. This prize was founded by and is sponsored by Elsevier.

Transfer a Model in ABAQUS Explicit to Standard

Submitted by rmbwang on

Dear all,

Currently, I have got a model in ABAQUS explicit in which a periodic boundary condition has been set, while I am trying to run this model in ABAQUS standard. I am wondering if anyone knows what should I do regarding the transfer.

I have already tried to edit the step module but I cannot find the 'static' option.

Thanks for all your help.

Best regards,

Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension

Submitted by Ahmad Rafsanjani on

We present a monolithic mechanical metamaterial comprising a periodic arrangement of snapping units with tunable tensile behavior. Under tension, the metamaterial undergoes a large extension caused by sequential snap-through instabilities, and exhibits a pattern switch from an undeformed wavy-shape to a diamond configuration.

Young Modulus and Yield Strength of low alloy steel

Submitted by romaroma on

Hi all!

What is the relation between young's modulus and yield strength?

In the stress strain curves for our sample indicated  the Youngs modulus is above 400000 MPa. I think this is not ok, since the Youngs Modulus is a constant factor, which should always be at around 200000 MPa. However, the value of yield strength (0.5% EUL) meet the expected value of YS.

Please give advice about this matter? Is that related to error strain reading? Can we say that our YS already OK and neglecting the value of Young's Modulus that given by our Machine?
