Defining general contact in axisymmetric analysis with share node cohesive elements

Submitted by prabhat on

Dear All,

I am am using share node cohesive element in axisymmetric analysis. I want to use friction between two joined blocks when cohesive elements break. I tried this with using general contact definition in Abaqus 6.8. To do so, I am defining element based surface but while running the simulation the abaqus gives following error:

***ERROR: *CONTACT currently does not support the use of 2D surfaces.

Can anyone help to find out what can be wrong with my surface definition.

With regards and best wishes,

Prabhat

locking ansys

Submitted by nanthakumar.s.s on

In ansys Solid185 when fully integrated induces locking. The deflection values are smaller than analytical deflection values. When i used solid45 to model the same structure it gives results close to analytical solution. This is bcoz solid45 has extra shape functions besides the sf for 8 noded brick element

In the above displacement field shown u1, u2 and u3 doesnot corresspond to any node. Introduction of extra dofs make the elemnt flexible to overcome locking. But how these extra shape functions considerably increase accuracy?
