Cohesive elements parameters

Submitted by parisa on

Hi,

I am working a long time on using cohesive elements in ABAQUS but up to now my efforts have be unsucessful.

I want to use of cohesive elements with the following paramters:

Damage initiation: Normal stres= 1.9 MPa, shear stress= 6.2 MPa

Damage evolution:  Mode I fracture energy= 0.5307, Mode II farcture energy= 0.6623

Could any body kindly let me know that what would be my model E/Knn, E/Kss parameters?

Thank you,

Parisa

convergence problem in interface delamination modeling in ansys

Submitted by saeedspace on

hi every body..

im trying to  model interface delamination in ansys. i use inter204 or 205 for interface element.the problem is that as the stress in interface riches the yield value, the solution doesnt converge.

i tried to increase  the number of substeps or decrease the size of element, but the problem still exists.

Post Doctoral Research Associate in Multiscale Modeling of Radiation Induced Damage

Submitted by Suvranu De on

There is an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research position in the Advanced Computational Research Lab at RPI, Troy, NY to work on a multiscale modeling project which involves modeling of radiaiton damage of metallic materials. Encouraged to apply are creative, self-motivated candidates with a sound background in computational mechanics. Desired qualifications: (1) PhD in Computational/Applied Mechanics/ Materials Science.

Stress Wave Propagation in a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar

Submitted by Emeka on

Hello I am a student of the University of Manchester. I am modelling a SHPB assembly together with the specimen, and I am having trouble with placing the loads, creating the boundary constrain between the incident, transmitter bar and the specimen. I created the interaction between the assembly with a suppressed TIE, and after loading and submitting the job I kept on getting errors. The load did not transmit to up to a quarter of the incident bar.

RPIM

My research field is Numerical methods in fluid dynamic. The method that we use named CDLS mesh-less method. It is based on MLS shape function and Least square equation discretization.

We decide to change our shape function from MLS to RPIM. We predict if this shape function couple with our method, we will reach better results in fluid dynamic problems. But we don't have any experience in using this kind of shape functions.

Now I am looking for a person who has experience in working with RPIM shape function for cooperation.

PhD position : hex mesh generation

Submitted by remacle on

Two PhD studentships opportunities are available at the Universite catholique de
Louvain in Belgium for outstanding candidates.
The aim of the project is to develop a novel approach for generating
dominant hex meshes for general/complex 3D models. The approach will be based
both a generalisation of Lloyd's algorithm and on the resolution of some kind of
PDE in the domain in order to compute distances, curvatures, surface
geodesics... We look here for an indirect approach i.e. we first generate the
points and then reconnect them. All the developments will be done in the
framework of gmsh (http://www.geuz.org/gmsh).
Successfull candidates should have a strong background in applied
mathematics/numerical methods for CFD. Some knownledge of mesh generation
