Proving Orthogonality of Rigid Body Modes

Submitted by John Craighead on

I'm working on a MSc thesis involving both rigid body (zero energy) & deformational (elastic) modes and their orthogonality wrt mass matrix. I want to prove that elastic modes are mutually orthogonal (done !), that elastic & rigid body modes are so (sort of done !) & that rigid body modes also are so (unsure how ?). Can anyone offer any advice ?

Thanks, John.

Dielectric elastomers of interpenetrating networks

Submitted by Zhigang Suo on

Recent experiments have shown that a voltage can induce a large deformation in an elastomer of interpenetrating networks. We describe a model of interpenetrating networks of long and short chains. As the voltage ramps up, the elastomer may undergo a snap-through instability. The network with long chains fills the space and keeps elastomer compliant at small to modest deformation. The network with short chains acts as a safety net that restrains the elastomer from thinning down excessively, averting electrical breakdown.  It appears possible to find a dielectric elastomer capable of giant deformation of actuation.  You can read the paper, or take a look at the slides posted here.

How to used elements in ANSYS Classic

Submitted by ingcartun on

Hello to everybody,

Can somebody help me with advice in the next problem : I want to study an dynamic movement of some beams, with rigid body option from ANSYS Classic. I encountered the problem when I want to choose the element type for cilynder. I choose LINK11. But I need to simulate what is happend between the moment when is applied the force on cilynder and imposed lenght of ciclynder after pool.

How I can settup the properties of element LINK11 to satisfy my results.

Iterations in VUMAT

Submitted by cece83 on

Dear all,

I' m trying to make a model in VUMAT for shape memory alloy based on Lagoudas 's thermomechanical constitutive model. It seems that It's necessary an iteration to evaluate the thermoelastic prediction.

My questions are : is it possible to use an iterative loop in the VUMAT or it's better to avoid it??Could someone suggest me a different way so that I can avoid the iterative loop?

Many thanks,

Cece

Importing ONLY Damage and Displacement in an Analysis

Submitted by Bartschi1986 on

Hi, i've got the following Problem:

I am running an Abaqus/Standard Analysis in which i am importing the results from a previous Explicit Analysis.

The thing is, I only want to Import the deformed mesh (displacement) and the damages to my model.

I tried using the "Predefined Field" option, but this imports every result from the previous analysis.

Is there any way I can choose which variables to import (e.g. U3,...) ???

Thanks for any help!
