A new paper on the nanoscale plasticity in twinned gold nanowires

Submitted by cdeng on

A new paper titled "Enabling Ultrahigh Plastic Flow and Work Hardening in Twinned Gold Nanowires " from Dr. Sansoz's group just came out on the latest issue of NanoLetters. Attached below is the abstract and the full paper can be found at: http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/nl803553b. We welcome any comment about this paper as well as our research.

Question about stochastic Finite Elements

Submitted by tlaverne on

Hi to the community !

I would like to ask if anyone have some experience with stochastic finite elements in an industrial context ?

Would you know some software (free or commercial) package for stochastic finite elements ?

Why do I have the feeling that sfem methods which look to be very promising aren't used much in practice ? Am I wrong when I say that ?

Thank you very much for any help about that !

Chaboche elasto-viscoplastic model with plastic strain memorization and time-recovery in ANSYS

Submitted by Barbara on

Hi, I am a reserach fellow of mechanical engineering in Italy. I need to implement the elasto-viscoplastic model of Chaboche in a user subroutine in ANSYS accounting also for the plastic strain memorization and for the static and dynamic recovery. In a next step I sould also need to incorporate the damage variable of this model.

Phase Field Modelling of Fracture Mechanics

Submitted by PrajwalSabnis on
Hello To one and All,

I am currently working on my Master's thesis in Computational Mechanics and as the Title suggests, I am working on using phase field theories to model fracture mechanics. The whole idea /concept of phase field modelling in itself has been a very complex topic for me, as it originates in superconductivity theories of which I have but a superficial understanding. I am ok with fracture mechanics terminology as I have worked on it before.

Modeling bone and implant

Submitted by Linping Zhao on

I'm working with multiple meshed items and attempting to cut them using the Instance boolean operation. My parts include parts I've sketched & meshed in Abaqus and a 3D object I imported from MIMICS (.inp file). When I attempt to selectively cut the instances that overlap, Abaqus failed. Any suggestions on the modeling of bone and implant with a reasonable fit in geometry?

comments on second page

Submitted by Rui Huang on

I just noticed a new problem with imechanica: when a blog entry has received too many comments, additional comments will be placed on a second page but not linked properly. For example, the comment, "Work-free isochoric deformation", has a link node/5014#comment-10406 , which leads to the original blog entry rather than the comment. One can find the comment either by scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the page and then clicking "Next" or by a direct link, node/5014?page=1.
