The Paris equation

The  Paris equation should correctly be referred to as the ERDOGAN-PARIS equation, maybe some more names may be needed.
LEFM is a term bandied about in the text books, but very few texts  know how to define what it means and how it applies.
You can take my course.  What happened to the earlier posts about my course.

Domain structures of ferroelectric nanotubes controlled by surface charge compensation

Ferroelectric nanotubes have potential application in inkjet printing and drug delivery due to their piezoelectric property and unique geometry. For different applications, different electrical boundary conditions are applied to ferroelectric nanotubes. In the present work, domain structures in ferroelectric nanotubes (FNTs) under different electrical boundary conditions are predicted through a phase field model. Simulation results show that domain structures are highly dependent on the compensation of polarization-induced surface charges.

M Tech/ME and B Tech/BE Projects Available in Pune (Mech., CS, etc.)

I have quite a few ideas for MTech/ME/BTech/BE degree projects. The projects may be suitable in many different branches, including Mechanical, Computer Science, Metallurgical, Aerospace, Civil, etc. (In a few cases, MSc/M Phil students of departments like Physics or Computer Modeling and Simulation would be suitable too.)

All these projects are available for the new academic year (2008-09), at Pune, India.

I joined imechanica almost a year ago and I've been frequently following its interesting discussions, even the most animated ones. I think that a place like this is ideal to foster the exchange of ideas in the scientific community;

Moreover it is fantastic as a simple student like me can interact and easily ask questions to the most important researcher in the field of mechanics.

Time dependent vs Independent

In Computational mechanics, for rate(time) dependent calculations (eg. Creep, plasticity), when we say time step dt, does it mean physical time.

Can I think this way:

I start at time 0 and calculate stress, strain etc  after 1 sec, 2 sec, 3 sec..

Also, what exactly is strain rate? why do some books say ..'when a strain rate is applied'''..I'm confused..dont we just apply displacement or force all the time.
