Need help in resolving an ABAQUS error about degrees of freedom of a temp-disp process

ABAQUS - DEGREE OF FREEDOM 11 AND AT LEAST ONE OF DEGREES OF FREEDOM 1 THRU 6 MUST BE ACTIVE IN THE MODEL FOR *COUPLED TEMP-DISP. CHECK THE PROCEDURE AND ELEMENT TYPES USED IN THIS MODEL.

Hi,

I’m trying to learn ABAQUS to simulate temperature-displacement problems. So, I’ve started on a simple example: two plates in contact, the 2nd presses and moves on the 1st plate (which is fixed).Could anyone tell me why the program gives me this error:

DEGREE OF FREEDOM 11 AND AT LEAST ONE OF DEGREES OF FREEDOM 1 THRU 6 MUST BE ACTIVE IN THE MODEL FOR *COUPLED TEMP-DISP. CHECK THE PROCEDURE AND ELEMENT TYPES USED IN THIS MODEL.

Let me tell you what I’ve made:

1.       I draw two plates (3D)

2.       At proprieties: - two materials (for each plate) – I specified: density, elastic proprieties, conductivity, specific heat;- create two section for each material;- assign those sections for each plate.

3.       Assembly – I positioned plates one above other to make possible the contact

4.       Interaction – I let the program to find contact pairs (with small sliding in Kinematic contact method). There I declare the Contact Property – penalty for tangential behavior, hard contact for normal behavior and heat generation with default values. The contact takes place in the Initial Step

5.       Steps – there I made three steps:

-   Initial one

-  1st  pressure

-  2nd velocity

-  3rd temp-disp

The fact is that I tried to work with abaqus static (same error) and with abaqus explicit. Now I remain on Explicit (dynamic explicit).

6.       Loads:

- BC bottom surface of 1st element ENCASTRE (initial step)

- pressure on the top of 2nd element (1st step - pressure)

- BC velocity for the 2nd element (the one who is pressed) (2nd step - velocity)

- BC temperature – Ex: 20 Cdgr (3rd step – temp-disp)

7.       Then I run the program. If I let the 3rd step it gives me that Error message. If I run the program without 3rd step works good and let me see the movement of the plate and the mechanical stress.

Thanks for your attention
