Information on Abaqus CFD

Submitted by Lucia Besana on

Hi everybody,

I'm going to do a degree dissertation on FSI using Abaqus CFD.

I'm now considering a simple case, a circular cylinder fully immersed in a fluid domain. In this simple case I consider the cylinder as rigid and fixed. I want to work out the forces on that cylinder. I know that this is possible using Abaqus CFD but I don't know how to do. Maybe it's a really trivial question but I don't know in a practical way how to do it. I have already performed the analysis but I don't know how to extract this result.

Thanks a lot

Lucia

It is a simple proble.

The first model which is made ine the ABAQUS/standard is a
structure model

The second model which is made in the ABAQUS/CFD is the
fluid model

In each model you should define a ‘’fluid-structure
co-simulation boundary ’’ in the interaction module

I  hope this can help
you any way if you can send a email to me if you want (m.alinia [at] me.iut.ac.ir)

Lucia,

We recently posted about coupling CFD/Structural on our SIMULIA Learning Community (www.simulia.com/learning).

Title: e-Learning: Co-simulation of Abaqus/Standard and Abaqus/Explicit: https://swym.3ds.com/#post:13030

Abaqus/Standard to Abaqus/Explicit co-simulation allows you to capitalize on algorithmic strengths of two analysis program.  Abaqus/Standard strengths include:

   - Unconditionally stable

   - Allows for larger time increments than Abaqus/Explicit

   - Substructuring

   - Cost-effective for small-strain analysesAbaqus/Explicit strengths include:

   - Excels at simulating high-speed events

   - Extremely robust contact algorithm

Co-simulation provides a cost-effective solution when different model regions can benefit from the respective strengths of the two analysis program.

I would like to model a two phase flow (water and debris) in
a deformation pipe. Can I use Abaqus CFD to model the two/ multiphase flow. If
not,  can you provide any
suggestion/example/reference about a suitable CFD code that can couple and
cosimulate with ABAQUS standard/explicit?

Thanks for your help.
