Plotting stress-strain graph from simulation

Hi everyone, I am studying an example in Abaqus example problems manual (version 6.10) called "uniaxial rachetting under tension and compression". In the example there is a graph plotting axial stress-strain relationship for experiment data and simulation data. By studying the inp file I knows that the writer has ask for some outputs like RF1, RF2, RF3, S, ALPHA, ALPHAN, LE and so on in certain node and element set. However, I still can't figure out how writer use the output data from simulation to plot the axial stress-strain graph. To be specific, I hope to know what formula or what method did writer use to process the simulation data in order to get stress-strain data and plot the stress-strain graph as shown in the example. Or is there any build in function in Abaqus that can actually help us to plot the stress-strain graph?

Thank you.

Sorry Shabeer Khan, I am a ABAQUS novice. Can you tell me more about ss graph? Is it one of the function of ABAQUS viewer? It's output is true stress vs true strain graph just like the one we saw in most of the published mechanics thesis right? Or other kind of stress and strain?

Thank you.

Hi,

there is a build in function called combine. You have to create the 2 XY data--> odb field output. Select stresses and strains for a node (unique nodal is easier) - element .. thenyou close the window. press again create XY data--> operate on XY data--> combine--> add the 2 variablesin the function and that's all..

May I ask something about your input file? what does the  cyclic hardening represent in ur input file? You basically have the first yield stress value written twice; and what is the 13.2 parameter? it looks to me very weird as a given valu... Try plot without the cyclcic hardening, i think the results would be the same...

*Cyclic Hardening, parameters
120., 120., 13.2

You dont need to define any output; just with the default ones you may plot stress-strain curves..

Good luck,

      Panos

Fairly saying I have alos same question as of others because I am also not so efficient on this field that, Is it one of the function of ABAQUS viewer? It's output is true stress
vs true strain graph just like the one we saw in most of the published
mechanics thesis right? Or this is just a simple basic of stress and strain. The value that you have given us of Cyclic Hardening is little different than of others. Moreover, does this strain stress graphs works for vehicle excavators or not because we are currently working on this.
