Hey,
I am trying to do simulation of one eighth of the unit cell with single void at the center in ABAQUS. I have problem with boundary conditions. I am using *Equation constraint in ABAQUS. But it is not working properly. I can not figure it out which one or two should be my control points or master nodes and what DOF should be used. Can anyone give me suggesations regarding this problem. Thanks in advance.
boundary conditions
Dear Rahman
For unit cell analysis you need periodic boundary conditions. The periodic boundary conditions can be implemented by two methos, First one is by using node to node constrains and other one is by using face to face constrains. you can refer my paper on analysis unit cell containing the voids "www.iaeng.org/publication/WCE2010/WCE2010_pp1597-1601.pdf". If you find any difficulty in applying the face to face boundary conditions then please feel free to contact.

BC's in Abaqus
Dear Dr. Yaoob and Sharma,
Thanks for your reply and referring me to your paper. I still do have difficulties with boundary conditions:
1. As you mentioned, if I use node to node constraints, then I have to constarint each left side node to corresponding right one. But the problem is due to void in one side the number of nodes on both side are not equal. Please enlighten me regarding this.
2. If I use face to face BC's, then which constraint option in ABAQUS is feasible - *Equation, *Tie or *Coupling? Also what about the edge nodes? They would be selected twice and simulation would be aborted.
I look forward to hear from you soon. Thanks in advance.

abaqus-Periodic BCs
I have the same problem and I do not know how to apply periodic boundary condition....can you please help me how it works?
thanks,

PBC- Abaqus
Hi Mansoor,
have you found the way to apply the PBC into abaqus? If yes, could you please pass me some information on the steps?
Thanks,
Bernad
