Hello everyone,
My problem is to analyse a case of pile jacking using Abaqus. To eliminate element distortion, I used ALE adaptive mesh function for the soil domain. I want to determine the soil settlement about 0.5m below the surface level. When an adaptive mesh is used, I noticed that the mesh distortion is very high and cannot depend on that to determine the settlement of the soil as there were some unrealistic movements of nodes far from the driven pile. I then used adaptive mesh control priority to preserve initial mesh grading, but still there are some movements in far domain. I realized that I cannot use nodal displacements to determine the soil deformations below the surface level, as the nodal displacements consist of adaptive mesh effect together with material displacement.
Has anyone come across such a problem before? What did you do to overcome the problem? I want to get rid of the adaptive mesh effect from the final results, so I can derive actual deformation of soil. Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot for your time.
