The research group in Advanced Structural Materials and Nanomaterials (Department of Materials Science, Polytechnic Unviersity of Madrid) is looking for a graduate student to carry out his/her PhD within the framework of a collaborative research project among Michigan State University, IMDEA Materials Institute and the Polytechnic University of Madrid entitled "Understanding the Microstructural Evolution and Deformation Behavior of Mg-Mn-RE Alloys". The project is funded by the NSF of US and Spain within the Materials World Network program.
The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the project leader from the Polytechnic University of Madrid to model the mechanical behavior at micron scale of polycrystalline Mg alloys including the physical features of the microstructure (grain size, texture, etc.) as well as the dominant deformation (slip, twinning) and fracture (grain boundary sliding) micromechanisms. Modelling will be carried out in close interaction with the experimental work carried out in MSU and IMDEA Materials Institute (including stages in both places).
Interested candidates should submit his/her CV to Prof. Javier LLorca at javier.llorca [at] upm.es
