nonlinear buckling in ansys

Submitted by asad zahid on

I want to do nonlinear buckling of simple cylinder by applying external pressure. I am activating only "large displacement static" option in ansys and apply load in substeps. But after solution is done, how to get buckling pressure??

For linear/eigen value buckling, it is very simple. After solving, in general postprocessor menu, buckling modes are displayed in "results summary".

Please tell me, for nonlinear buckling???

Hi,Initially you carry out a linear buckling analysis. Linear buckling factor gives you an idea about the load to be scaled in non-linear buckling analysis (NBA). Say, 'L' is the factor (say more than unity) in linear buckling analysis. Scale your load by '2' for instance. Now the load becomes โ€˜2Lโ€™. Now carry out NBA. Since the analysis is non-linear, load is to be applied incrementally. In NBA, when the stiffness of the structure reduces to a negligible value, structure becomes unstable and solution diverges. You have to find out at what time increment (pseudo time) it diverged. Say the pseudo time increment is 'I' (I<1). Then your load factor is, 2L*I. I hope this helps and all the best.- Ramadas
