Summer school on "Computational multiscale fracture mechanics" announcement
Dear Colleagues,
on behalf of the organizing committee of the IUTAM 2012 International Symposium on "Fracture Phenomena in Nature and Technology" (Brescia, Italy, July 1-5, 2012), we are glad to give an important news. Owing to a call for funding by the UNIVERSITY OF BRESCIA, the organizing committee has the chance to offer a summer school on "Computational multiscale fracture mechanics" to PhD students, post-docs and young researchers (younger than 35) in the week before the IUTAM symposium. Please note that it is not going to be a IUTAM summer school.
The leading lecturers will be:
- Professor D. Warner (Cornell University) Lectures topic: "From continuum to quantum fracture mechanics".
- Professor S. Bordas (Cardiff University) Lectures topic: "Extended finite element and meshfree methods in fracture simulations".
Participation in the school is basically free (100 Euros, including lunches and classes handouts). We also encourage summer school participants to present their research in a poster session at IUTAM symposium.
Most likely participants may receive a grant from the UNIVERSITY OF BRESCIA that may cover the two-weeks accommodation and the IUTAM symposium fees as well.
In order to apply for a sponsorship for the summer school we have been requested to have a record of at least 10 foreigners interested students. Therefore, we kindly ask PhD students, post-docs and young researchers (younger than 35) who are interested in this opportunity to send an email to:
alberto.salvadori@ing.unibs.it
as soon as possible. Further details will follow.
Looking forward to receiving your applications,
we remain with best regards
Alberto Salvadori
on behalf of the organizing committee
