Immediate opening for a PhD student in the area of computational materials and mechanics

There is a PhD (RA) position available starting in the spring 2013 in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T- formerly known as University of Missouri-Rolla). MSE program at Missouri S&T is one of the largest and most respected MSE programs in the Us (http://mse.mst.edu).

The Ph.D. research project is about developing a multi-phase-field model for multi-component alloy solidification.

Applicants should have (or expect) his/her master's degree in mechanical or materials engineering or applied mathematics, with a strong background in computational materials science or computational solid mechanics. Desired skills include: familiarity with finite element method, phase field method, and experience using COMSOL, MICRESs, MATLAB, or ABAQUS.

Applicants should submit their letter of interest and CV to Dr. Mohsen Asle Zaeem, zaeem@mst.edu. CV should include GPA of BS and MS, GRE score (and TOEFL for international applicants), list of publications, research interests, and contact information of three references.
Applicants must have the minimum requirements for admission in the MSE department: GRE, Q+V = 1100, AW> 3.5 (new version, Q+V=235, AW 3.5); TOEFL, PBT 570, iBT 88, CBT 230.
