Mechanical / Systems Engineer for R&D Company in New York City

 

Very exciting job opportunity at an unusual company built on hard-core science plus ingenuity for a systems engineer with a strong background in mechanical engineering and electromechanical systems.  You will:

  • Be the Principal Investigator for one or more SBIR programs.
  • Co-ordinate multiple ongoing R&D projects.
  • Perform original research and contribute to the company's patent portfolio.
  • Manage prototype fabrication and testing.
  • Develop research strategies and timelines for the company's product streams.

 Desired Skill and Experience:

  • Experience with electromechanical systems and controls essential.
  • Good communication and organizational skills essential.
  • Ability to work as part of a team essential.
  • Familiarity with CFD and FSI a plus.
  • Abaqus FEA and other solid mechanics modeling experience a plus.
  • Work experience as a PI for SBIR programs a plus.
  • Expertise in materials and especially electroactive polymers a plus.
  • Familiarity with neural network control algorithms a plus.
  • Skill with your hands a plus because we build some of our own prototypes.

Hire date: January-February 2013.


Must live in the NYC area.

 

Pliant Energy Systems is developing a radically novel technology with applications in energy harnessing, propulsion and pumping. The company receives support from The National Science Foundation, The Office of Naval Research, New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) and The Clean Energy Alliance.
