PhD Program in Computational Mechanics and Advanced Materials

We would like to highlight to all the interested students that is now opened the competition for the academic year 2013-2014 (starting from November 1, 2013) for 5 positions in PhD program in "Computational Mechanics and Advanced Materials" hosted by the The Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia, in cooperation with the University of Pavia. The program chairman is Prof. F. Auricchio.

For all positions, the successful candidates are expected to have a high level of motivation, sound academic accomplishments and ability to learn and work independently. It is also expected that the successful candidates will have an active role in disseminating the outcomes including presenting at conferences and publishing scientific papers. The program is three years in duration
The fields of research are:
1) Computational biomechanics with emphasis on cardiovascular stenting and hearth valves
2) Constitutive modeling for SMA (Shape Memory Alloys)
3) Isogeometric analysis
4) FSI and immersed methods

3 positions are offered jointly by the Institute for the Advanced Study (IUSS) and the University of Pavia, both located in Pavia, Italy and covered by scholarships, according to Italian PhD rules, but up to 2 self-funded candidates will also be considered.
