Job Title: Sr Principal Engineer



Summary:



Applies a solid understanding of theories/practices utilized by other disciplines outside the primary area of expertise toward the development of new or enhanced products or processes. Plans, executes and functionally directs important engineering assignments, which require independent judgment. Effectively applies standard engineering principles with focus on computational modeling and simulation to resolve difficult problems, from conception to final design with team input. Competent in mechanical design, rapid prototyping (3D printing) and triaging engineering requests to the larger function.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



- The individual will be the first TR Engineering member for the China R&D site, responsible for wearing multiple hats in mechanical design, engineering analysis and rapid prototyping space.



- Ability to work in China R&D team seamlessly and efficiently will be required and the candidate needs to demonstrate skills of an internal consultant on an ongoing basis.



- Candidate will be expected to manage external service providers for Rapid Prototyping and bring the RP business/infrastructure in-house over the course of 2014-2015 once a customer base is established in China R&D.



- Candidate may supervise temporary engineers or technicians to establish project goals.



- Candidate will assist in the financial planning and analysis of future TRE build-up in China R&D site.



- Candidate will take on and finish moderate to high complexity engineering tasks individually or with help from the larger TRE organization.



- Create and communicate project plans, tasks and deliverables and manage time to meet project deadlines. This includes reporting pertinent information at key milestones through clear, concise oral and written communications.



- Engage in personal and continuing program of learning in order to broaden knowledge in mechanical engineering and to gain knowledge in new fields of general engineering in order to improve the individual effectiveness and to avoid technical obsolescence.



Qualifications:



- Display a solid understanding of theories/practices utilized by other disciplines outside primary area of expertise.



- Proven experience in linear and non-linear structural analysis, fluid dynamics, fluid structure interaction, materials science, thermal analysis, design for reliability, design of experiments and optimization.



- Expert in the use of one or more mechanical engineering tools, i.e. ABAQUS, FLUENT, Pro-Engineer and Magics.



- Experience modifying/preparing mechanical designs for rapid prototyping, i.e. SLA, FDM, 3D printing.



- Demonstrated skills in managing external service bureau’s for rapid prototyping / 3D printing services.



- Knowledgeable about manufacturing processes and material properties. Familiar with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA).



- Ability to design / solve engineering problems with minimal assistance.



- Ability to convince management on courses of action with minimal assistance using both written and verbal methods.



- Effectively operate in and may facilitate cross-functional teams with guidance.



- Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications.



- Demonstrated ability to decompose complex problems into actionable task lists.



- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership for mechanical engineering projects with substantial complexity and scope.



- Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied functions (i.e. Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, etc.)



- Ability to drive change initiatives.



- Fluent in English (verbal and written)



Background and/or Experience:



- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. A minimum 8-10 years of mechanical engineering experience.



- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. A minimum 6-8 years of mechanical engineering experience.



- PhD. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. A minimum 4-6 years of mechanical engineering experience.



Preferred



- Expert in the linear and non-linear Finite Element analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics.



- Working knowledge of operating in a regulated industry.
