A five-year research fellow position at Monash Geomechanics Group, Australia

The position is a research position within the recently launched collaborative research project (“Advanced Condition Assessment and Failure Prediction Technologies for Optimal Management of Critical Water Pipelines” or known as Critical Water Pipe Project). The position is to undertake research components designated in Activity 1 of Critical Water Pipe Project as per Collaborative Research Agreement. Activity 1 covers – How, when and where will pipes fail within the entire network? The work will entail undertaking research in this area, participation in general activities within the project and some project management.

 

Key selection criteria 

Essential: 

1. Research doctorate (PhD) in Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical 

Engineering, Structural Mechanics 

2. Computer modelling skills, preferably using ABAQUS software; 

3. Demonstrated ability to undertake outstanding research; 

4. Demonstrated experience in multi-disciplinary research; 

5. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; and 

6. Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in a multidisciplinary team to make a contribution to research, scholarship and teaching. 

Desirable: 

7. Finite element modelling experience; 

8. Knowledge in soil-structure interaction modelling; 

9. Research experience in pipe-ground interaction modelling.
