Interpolation of stress state into new mesh in ABAQUS

Dear colleages,

I've been trying to solve this issue for some weeks but I haven't found yet the appropiate way to do it. I'll describe my problem:

I'm using an indenter to apply a scratch on the surface of a material and thus forming a groove on it. After this, I want to apply a second scratch at the bottom of groove produced by the first scratch with a new indenter which is 20 times smaller. The geometry is in 3D and the job is run in Explicit.

As the second scratch zone is quite small and is not affected by the rest of the model, I've been wondering about some way of creating a new mesh just for the second scratch, with the stress state from the previous scratch interpolated into the new mesh. I tried using *MAP SOLUTION to interpolate the results into a new mesh but it requires that the new mesh occupies the same geometric space than the original one, and I cannot edit freely the orphan deformed mesh that I import. I also tried predefining an initial state to a new finer mesh, but the interpolation in Abaqus for this is only avalaible for nodal temperatures and electric potential I think.

Do you know any other way to solve my problem?

Kind regards,

Carlos

PS: I know that I could locally refine the mesh in the second scratch area from the beggining but I'd like to avoid that option for the moment.
