Hybrid Composite Model Design!

Submitted by hasan_ikbal on

Hello everybody!

I'm kinda new in ABAQUS, struggling with very simple models design it seems!

My research is on fiber reinforced hybrid composites. Basically it is a laminate of four plies, and each ply consists of a hybrid combination of two fibers (Carbon and galss). Fiber bundles are arranged (5mm:5mm) alternatively throughout the width of the fabric (plz. find the attachments). The models I want to create are very simple, for tensile, compression, flexural and shear simulation as per ASTM standard.

I tried a way but ended up failed:

-- I took 3D deformable shells (planer) for my model design, thought I could create sections as per my materials and create composite laminate and assign material properties to each ply. The problem is when I try to put material properties to each ply, I see option for only one material selection. But in practice each ply consists of two different fibers. That finally convinced me the way I am trying perhaps not the way I should try.

I would be glad if somebody could help me providing some suggestions in this regard.

Thanks in advance!!
