LG Fuel Cell Systems Inc Internship

LG Fuel Cell Systems Inc. ("LGFCS") is a solid oxide fuel cell ("SOFC") company focused on development of a one (1)MW SOFC power system for distributed generation applications. The company has two major share holders, LG Corp. and Rolls-Royce PLC, and facilities in the United States (North Canton, Ohio - headquarters), the United Kingdom (Derby) and Korea (Seoul). Product development has been focused on rapid development of a prototype system into the commercial market.

The position is within the Cell Development team supporting the development, testing and analysis of solid oxide fuel cells with the objective of improving performance and durability.

The intern will apply materials science knowledge to improve, modify current materials, or develop new materials to meet fuel cell processing and performance targets. Prepare samples from different fuel cell materials through powder pressing and high-temperature firing and perform fundamental property measurement, such as density, porosity, conductivity, thermal expansion coefficient and phase analysis. Prepare and test solid oxide fuel cell test articles and contribute to analysis of experimental results. Support metallographic preparation of printed and tested articles including SEM operation. Perform literature search on specific fuel cell materials, summarize and review the progress in public domain, give presentation and recommend action plan/direction for future development.

What we need:

• Open to Junior level standing students enrolled in 4 year engineering programs, in preferably Materials or Chemical Engineering.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above required.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
• Majoring in fuel cells, materials science, chemistry, or chemical engineering
