Could you give me a basic explanation for lattice incompatibilty in the crystal plasticity framework ?

rajan_prithivi's picture

I read a few papers wherein the lattice incompatibility is defined mathematically, taking the route of the non closure of the loop in the intermediate configuration and finally arriving at the Nye tensor as curl (Fp) or curl (Fe) . These are related to GND density/lattice curvatures and they are used in the non local formulations. but i am unable to comprehend the basic things -

Questions :

1) Would it be possible to understand the lattice incompatibility from a geometric perspective or any alternative elementary explanation ( say from the view point of definition of  compatible deformation etc. )  apart from the mathematical view point ?

2) Does this come as a direct consequence of our multiplicative decomposition defined as F=FeFp ?

3) We are directly applying the burgers circuit definition from atomic scale to  continuum scale via line integral - Would this be a valid method?

Thanks,
Prithivi
