Ph.D Position 1: viscoelastic and electromechanical behavior of porous ferroelectrets

At the Division of Mechanics of Functional Materials in the institute of Materials Science, TU Darmstadt a Ph.D position is to be filled as soon as possible. The position is scheduled for three years.

 Tasks and Opportunities

The objective is Finite Element Simulation on viscoelastic and electromechanical behavior of porous ferroelectrets. In particular, different mechanisms which play influential roles in aging and fatigue of the ferroelectrets will be revealed.

 Qualifications

Motivated applicants with corresponding qualifications in engineering and nature science, e.g. Computational Mechanics, Computational Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Applied Mathematics, are invited. Research experience in continuum mechanics, finite element modeling and programming are expected, as well as good language skills in English or German.

Interested candidates can send their application to the Email address xu@mfm.tu-darmstadt.de. Please put all your documents in one single pdf file, otherwise your application may not be considered.

Ph.D Position 2: Stochastic Finite Element Simulation of Ferromagnetics

At the Division of Mechanics of Functional Materials in the institute of Materials Science, TU Darmstadt, a Ph.D. position is to be filled as soon as possible. The position is scheduled for three years.

Tasks and Opportunities

The project is concerned with stochastic finite element simulation of ferromagnetic domain switching under the influence of thermal fluctuations and mechanical loading. Simulations should be carried out for revealing the mechanism of deterministic 180° switching in new memory cell designs as well as for the coercivity mechanism of high temperature magnets such as NdFeB.

Qualifications

Motivated applicants with corresponding qualifications in engineering and natural sciences (e.g. Computational Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Materials Science, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, or Applied Mathematics) are encouraged to apply. Research experience in stochastic finite element simulations and programming are expected, as well as good language skills in German and/or English.

Interested candidates may send their application (all documents in one single .pdf file) to  ( xu@mfm.tu-darmstadt.de) and Dr. Min Yi (yi@mfm.tu-darmstadt.de)
