Submitted by Kavan Hazeli on

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor positions in

  • aerospace vehicle dynamics including control of intelligent autonomous systems and dynamics of high-speed vehicles,
  • integrated computational materials engineering, energy systems, or materials for energy applications.

Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.  A successful applicant must evidence the ability to develop an externally funded research program, have a strong commitment to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and have an interest in performing university and professional service.  It is expected that applicants seeking a tenured position as an Associate Professor will have a significant track record in all aspects of research, teaching, and service.

The Department offers a BS degree in both Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, and an MS and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Systems Engineering.  Our faculty is currently comprised of 18 tenure-track/tenured members and 4 full-time lecturers.  Our student body includes approximately 1050 undergraduate and 150 graduate students.   In addition to its nationally known educational and research activities in rocket propulsion, the Department is engaged in a wide range of research activities currently funded by NSF, DOD, NASA, DOE, USDA, the State of Alabama, and several corporate sponsors.

UAH is ranked as a high research activity institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.  The College of Engineering is comprised of five Departments and has the largest enrollment of the university’s five academic colleges.   The research focus in the college includes three of several National Academy of Engineering (NAE) grand challenge problems.  The campus is located in the midst of a high technology community consisting of Fortune 500 corporations, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, and the Redstone Arsenal Army Base.

Consideration of applications will begin immediately, and the search will remain open until the positions are filled. Application material (in pdf format) including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, contact information (including name, address, email address and phone numbers) for at least three references, and separate statements of research plans and teaching interests, should be sent to maesearch [at] uah.edu (maesearch[at]uah[dot]edu).  The anticipated starting date is August 17, 2017. UAH is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Consistent with our core values of integrity, respect, diligence, excellence, inclusiveness and diversity, the university strongly encourages applications from members of all under-represented groups.
