Applications are invited for a PhD studentship position focused on multiscale modeling (nanoscale mechanics) and experiments of high performance ballistic fibers.
The successful applicants will work with Dr. Subramani Sockalingam and have an opportunity to collaborate and work with the US Army Research Laboratory (ARL). The research involves both multiscale modeling using finite element techniques and experimental work at the micron and submicron length scales. The overall goal is to develop a materials-by-design approach to improve material performance in extreme dynamic environments.
The successful applicant needs to be a U.S. citizen and will have opportunities to work at the ARL facility and potentially a long term career with ARL.
To apply, please send a CV and a cover letter including a summary of research interests to sockalin [at] cec.sc.edu (sockalin[at]cec[dot]sc[dot]edu)
