Description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applicants for a full time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. We seek an enthusiastic and energetic faculty member in either of the following areas: Automation and Controls or Materials, Manufacturing, Energy and Power, yet highly qualified candidates in any area related to Mechanical Engineering may be considered.

A successful candidate joining our dedicated department of faculty and staff will

-teach core undergraduate and graduate level mechanical engineering courses

-develop and teach new courses and/or components of the curricular program

-supervise students in research and design in the Engineering Clinics

-develop and sustain an active scholarship program through external research funding and publications in well-regarded journals and conferences

-mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students

 

Qualifications

The candidate should possess a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field and a Baccalaureate degree from an ABET accredited engineering program (or equivalent). In addition, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship and student mentoring.

 

Start Date 

The anticipated starting date for this mechanical engineering faculty position will be September 1, 2017. 

 

General Information

Rowan University is a comprehensive public institution with over 15,000 students and approximately 400 faculty and is expanding its research and educational mission. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, N.J., 20-miles southeast of Philadelphia, and it has a branch campus and allopathic medical school in Camden and an osteopathic medical school in nearby Stratford. The institution is also home to the South Jersey Technology Park, which fosters the translation of applied research into commercial products and processes. The University boasts seven colleges-Rohrer College of Business and colleges of Communication and Creative Arts, Education, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Performing Arts, and Science and Mathematics. The College of Engineering has over 1200 undergraduates in Bachelor of Science degree programs in Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical Engineering that emphasize multidisciplinary experiences, teamwork, technical communication, and continuous engineering applications. Additionally the College of Engineering has over 100 graduate students pursuing MS, MEM and PhD degrees. At Rowan we have a dynamic engineering college and are looking for faculty with new and innovative ideas. Multidisciplinary collaborations are a norm at our engineering college.

Major metropolitan areas within the Northeast Corridor are within easy reach of Glassboro. Philadelphia is a thirty minute drive, New York City and Washington, D.C. are less than three hours away, and the Jersey Shore is only an hour drive.
