W3 Professorship Applied Mechanics (Materials Theory)

Institute of Applied Mechanics in Civil Engineering | as soon as possible

The professorship is engaged in materials theory and the related development of simulation methods for coupled problems of mechanical and non-mechanical properties. Research should focus on modern multi-scale materials theory and its numerical aspects, preferably in the field of complex materials.

The successful candidate should strengthen the activities of the Faculty 2: Civil and Environmental Engineering in the research area of Computational Mechanics and cooperates closely with the Stuttgart Centre for Simulation Science (SC SimTech). Collaboration with further research initiatives is also expected.

The position involves teaching the fundamentals of engineering mechanics and, in particular, aspects of materials theory and multi-scale modelling in study courses offered by the faculty, the SC SimTech and in cooperation with other faculties. In particular, the professorship is expected to engage in the international master programme “Computational Mechanics of Materials and Structures” (COMMAS).
