Journal of Materials Science Special Issue: Mechanical Behavior of Interfaces in Materials

Submitted by Dongare on

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing this email in regards to a special issue being organized by me focused on "Mechanical Behavior of Interfaces in Materials" for the Journal of Materials Science along with Dr. Rajendran, Dr. Namburu, and Dr. Dubey..  . This special issue aims to address the links between the various characteristics of the interfaces (structural, chemical) and the response under various mechanical loading environments. A description of the scope is below:

Background/Scope:

The response/performance of technologically relevant materials in various applications is determined by the presence and evolution of various interfaces when materials are subjected to mechanical loading environments. A fundamental understanding of the links between the various characteristics of the interfaces (structural, chemical) and the response under various mechanical loading environments is a critical challenge that needs to be addressed to exploit and tailor new physical properties of materials for the next-generation applications. This special issue aims to address this challenge by focusing on the identification of the role of interfaces as well as the characterization of the mechanisms relating the various interface phenomena to the microstructural evolution and/or properties/behavior of materials.

Special Issue articles may summarize the latest developments, open questions, and longer-term needs in the understanding of the mechanical behavior of interfaces across multiple scales in several thematic areas of materials research. The emphasis will be on latest advances in the investigation and understanding of various interface phenomena towards materials design, novel synthesis methods, and characterization in structural materials, biomaterials, electronic, magnetic, energetic, polymeric & organic materials, etc. using theoretical, computational and experimental methods.
