Postdoc and Ph.D. opening in mechanics of mechanical metamaterials and soft robots

Submitted by Jie. Yin on

Applications are invited for an immediate postdoctoral associate opening and one Ph.D. opening (Spring, 2018) in mechanics and design of mechanical metamaterials and soft robotics in the Applied Mechanics of Materials Lab of Mechanical Engineering Department at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, US.

The project will focus on mechanics and design of soft mechanical metamaterials for achieving extraordinary mechanical, acoustic, electrical, or optical properties and multifunctionality, as well as their applications in (re)-programmable structures and soft robotics. The project will involve a combination of experiment (3D printing, mechanical testing, materials synthesis, and fabrication etc), analytical modeling, and numerical simulation methods (mainly finite element method).

For Postdoc, candidates with strong mechanics background and hands-on experience in fabrication and mechanical testing are desired. Specific knowledge of solid mechanics, theoretical modeling and numerical simulation, soft robotics, control is preferred. Applications must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field.

The initial contract will be ONE year and has the potential to be renewed depending on the candidate’s performance and funding status. The annual salary will be around $47,000 – $50,000 depending on the candidate’s years of experience.

Interested candidates should apply to Prof. Jie Yin at templeyin [at] gmail.com (templeyin[at]gmail[dot]com) with a cover letter, detailed CV, copies of three representative publications, and the names and addresses of three references.

For Ph.D, send your CV including your GPA, TOEFL or IELTS, and GRE score to Prof. Jie Yin at templeyin [at] gmail.com
