PhD Position (4 years) in Experimental Study of Nano-Composites

Center for Design, Manufactirung, and Materials, Skoltech, invites applications for a PhD position in Experimental Study of Nano Composites, starting in November 2017.

The research focus is on the overall electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of nanocomposites and changes in these properties during the loading of materials. Adviser is Prof. Sergey Abaimov, Co-Adviser is Prof. Iskander Akhatov. The admitted PhD student is guaranteed 4 years of funding. The award package typically includes a comprehensive health insurance and a scholarship at internationally competitive level.

Eligibility

• Successful candidates are expected to have a Masters (or Specialist or an equivalent) degree in mechanical or materials engineering.
• Previous experience in experimental mechanics in general, and mechanics of composites in particular is highly desirable.
• Successful candidates are expected to have experience with laboratory equipment. One of the primary responsibilities of a candidate will be specimens preparation and testing.
• A good knowledge of continuum mechanics and fracture mechanics is also required, as well as familiarity with computational methods.
• A candidate is expected to have at least an upper-intermediate level of the English language.

All documents should be submitted in English (the exceptions are diplomas and publications in Russian).

Interviews will be scheduled in September-October 2017.
