2018 Thomas K. Caughey Dynamics Award – Professor Firdaus Udwadia

The Executive Committee of the ASME Applied Mechanics Division is pleased to announce and congratulate Professor Firdaus Udwadia, Professor of Civil Engineering, Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering, University of Southern California, as the recipient of the 2018 Thomas K. Caughey Dynamics Award. This award, which includes a medal, a plaque, and an honorarium, will be presented at the AMD Honors and Awards Banquet, tentatively scheduled on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, during the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, November 9-15, 2018.

The Thomas K. Caughey Dynamics Award was established in 2008 and is conferred in recognition of an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of nonlinear dynamics through practice, research, teaching, and/or outstanding leadership.

Professor Udwadia received this award for Seminal and extraordinary contributions to the central problem of constrained motion in the analytical dynamics of nonlinear systems through the discovery and application of the explicit equations of motion for general, constrained mechanical systems
