Master/ PhD/ PDF positions in mass timber construction research at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada
The Engineered Wood and Building System research group is led by Prof. Ying Hei Chui in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Prof. Chui is the Chairholder of the NSERC Industry Research Chair in Engineered Wood and Building System. We are seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for the following positions.
Post-doctoral fellow in structural/ seismic engineering
This is a full time, 2 years, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance and continuing availability of funds.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on seismic behavior of mass timber constructions with innovation connections including finite element and analytical modelling, laboratory tests et al.;
- Collaborate with academic and industrial partners on projects related seismic design
- Prepare research reports, scientific publications;
- Disseminate research findings in domestic and international conferences;
- Supervising undergraduate and graduate students on related projects.
Desirable qualifications and attributes:
- Ph.D. degree in structural/ seismic engineering;
- Research or design experience in seismic design of tall buildings, experience or knowledge in wood design will be an asset;
- Advanced finite element modeling skills and developing/ coding techniques, preferably with Abaqus;
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills;
- Self-motivated team player with independent research ability.
MSc or PhD students with background and interest in one of the following areas:
- Timber structural engineering
- Seismic engineering
- Engineered wood products
- Building vibration and acoustics (highly-desired)
Successful candidates must be self-motivated, work well in a team environment, be able to make progress with minimum supervision and possess adequate English speaking and writing skills.
