MSc position in optimization at Howard University, Washington, DC

The Stout Infrastructure, Geotechnics, and Materials (SIGMa) Lab at Howard University, Washington, DC, invites applicants for a Master's position in optimization for Fall 2018. Highly-motivated, industrious individuals with a strong background in programming, geotechnics and structural analysis, adequate English proficiency, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team are encouraged to apply.

Required qualifications 

Applicants must have a degree in civil. mechanical or materials engineering. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: modeling and simulation of structures and materials, programming, machine learning.

Compensation package and contact information

The assistantship provides a tuition remission worth ~ $32000 for the first year. Renewal beyond the first year will be contingent upon the student's satisfactory progress. About the SIGMa Lab

The interdisciplinary research at SIGMa is focused on fostering sustainability and resilience in civil infrastructure by developing high-performance and multifunctional construction materials, performance monitoring of structures using remote sensing and smart materials, addressing the geotechnical aspects of infrastructure, and incorporating uncertainty analysis and optimization into the analysis and design of interacting geotechnical and structural systems.
