The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE, http://maeweb.ucsd.edu/) at the University of California, San Diego) invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position from candidates in Mechanical Engineering with a strong focus on research in Computational Mechanics and associated applications. Research topics of interest include, but are not limited to: multi-physics, multi-scale computational mechanics of materials subject to extreme environments; modeling of heterogeneous, “soft” materials; and advanced numerical methods for computational mechanics. Applications to aerospace engineering, bioengineering, additive manufacturing and to other areas of expertise represented in the MAE department are of particular interest. The instructional responsibility includes teaching undergraduate mechanics courses and graduate courses on numerical methods, elasticity, plasticity, and dynamics.

The required job duties include developing an excellent research program, teaching of university students, and service activities. As such, successful faculty candidates will demonstrate potential for teaching excellence and the highest standards of scholarship and professional activity in their research area. In addition, preferred candidates will have demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and have a desire to participate in the School's diversity initiatives (http://www.jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/diversity/).

A Ph.D. degree (or advanced to candidacy) is required in Engineering or closely related discipline. We especially welcome candidates who have contributed to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students or faculty in engineering and who are committed to, and experienced in, building an excellent and diverse academic environment.

Rank of position is at the Assistant Professor level.

Salary: Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications; salary based on UC pay scales and market conditions.
