PhD positions are available at the University of Minnesota in the group of Prof. Stefano Gonella. The positions are in the general area of mechanics and physics of solids, with emphasis on mechanical metamaterials. The position ideally starts in fall 2019, although a later start date (for example, in January 2020) can be considered.

Topics of current interest are:

1) Topological metamaterials;

2) Nonlinear and soft metamaterials;

3) Tunable and programmable metastructures.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and creative student with background in engineering, physics or mathematics, solid foundations in mechanics, coding experience and strong communication skills.

In parallel to the core theoretical and computational research, students will have the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge experimental work in the Wave Laboratory equipped with a 3D Laser Scanning Doppler Vibrometer.

Applicants should submit a resume (indicating names and contact of references) via email to Prof. Stefano Gonella at sgonella@umn.edu. Qualified candidates will be contacted to schedule a follow-up phone/Skype interview.
