Application Engineering Position at ANSYS, Houston, TX

We are pre-screening candidates for an opening for an application engineer at ANSYS Inc. preferably in Houston, TX.

The job entails providing advanced technical guidance on various aspects of computational Structural Mechanics with a focus on Thin-Walled Structures and Large Deformation to clients in industry and academia.

The position requires excellent theoretical fundamentals and experience with numerical simulations & scripting, in the area(s) of nonlinear finite element and large deformation as well as thin-walled structures along with the capacity to "boil down" complex problems into practical engineering solutions and implement numerical models.

 

Job Summary:

The Application Engineer will proactively consult with ANSYS customers, playing a lead role in supporting important customers with significant impact on revenues for software and value-added consulting services.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to advanced technical guidance on non-linear structural mechanics, and multidisciplinary-multiphysics applications
    • Having a strong foundation and experience in the area of Computational SOLID/STRUCTURAL MECHANICS is a must
    • At least 3 years of Experience in using FEA software such as ANSYS, LS-Dyna, Abaqus, NASTRAN, etc.
    • Experience in material modeling and elastomers
    • Experience in nonlinear analysis and large deformation
    • Familiarity with oil and gas and aerospace industry and experience in non-linear FEA
    • Experience in durability analysis and simulation high/low cycle fatigue
    • Experience in customization in solver and interface level such as user material/contacts or and Python scripting such as ACT
  • Engage in advanced consulting services: meet with customers, prepare project budgets, author proposals, execute the work
  • Create and demonstrate simulation solutions to streamline customer workflows, in support of the software sales process train customers on how to use ANSYS software
  • Engage in software testing
  • Develop and strengthen long-term relationships with customers
  • Lead/Assist in coordinating and executing all technical activities throughout the sales opportunity such as customer meetings and product presentations, demonstrations and evaluations 
  • Other job-related duties may be assigned by management from time to time

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Material/Civil Engineering or related field
  • 4 years experience in use of ANSYS Mechanical software, or other commercial FEA software for Structural Mechanics
  • Having a strong foundation and experience in the area of Computational SOLID/STRUCTURAL MECHANICS is a must
  • Experience in large deformation/large rotation
  • Experience in model updating and parameter identification
  • Familiarity with oil and gas and aerospace and experience in non-linear FEA
  • Experience in durability analysis and simulation high/low cycle fatigue
  • Experience in customization in solver and interface level such as user material/contacts or and Python scripting such as ACT
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to implement numerical models to obtain practical engineering solutions to difficult problems
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and to communicate effectively
  • Experience in development and implementation of user subroutines and customization, and Scripting
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary and multiphysics simulation is a plus
  • Experience working collaboratively with sales and marketing personnel is a plus
  • Experience in the use of CAD packages (such as Pro/Engineer. Solidworks) is a plus
  • Must display the ability to work independently, as well as with others in a geographically diverse team environment
  • Must have excellent verbal and written English skills
  • Must have excellent presentation skills
  • Available for consistent travel throughout the Southern region and occasionally in the rest of the North American sub-regions
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident is preferred due to access restrictions at customer and prospect sites
