Harley T. Johnson's picture

A postdoctoral research position in the design of materials and structures for tunable and active plasmonic filters is available immediately in the research group of Prof. Harley T. Johnson in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering and the Materials Research Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The position will involve a computational effort and a close collaboration with a national lab team of experimental and computational partners. The project is expected to result in the publication and presentation of work in leading journals and conferences.

The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following:

* plasmonic or photonic metamaterial device design

* simulation software including COMSOL, Lumerical, or other FDTD or FEM codes for optical phenomena

* understanding of theory of infrared spectroscopy

* other experience with computational electromagnetics, mechanics of soft materials, topology optimization, etc.

The position will be for a duration of one year, with the possibility to extend for a second and third year. For more information, or to submit an application (consisting of a cover letter, a CV, and names of three references), please contact Prof. Johnson by email at htj@illinois.edu.
