A postdoc position is immediately available in the Mechanics of Complex Systems Lab at UIUC
Dear all,
The Mechanics of Complex Systems Lab at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (https://publish.illinois.edu/mcslabuiuc/)is hiring two postdoctoral researchers in the broad area of computational mechanics and its applications to environmental mechanics.
Position 1: The candidate is expected to work on a project related to mechanics of natural and man-made earthquakes with emphasis on dynamic fracture modeling, modeling coupled fluid solid interactions, and leveraging recent machine learning algorithms for multi-scale bridging. A PhD in engineering or physics or a related field is required. Familarity with MOOSE software is a plus. Start date can be set as soon as January 2020.
Position 2: The candidate is expected to collaborate on developing a space-time discontinuous galerkin method for solving hyperbolic differential equations with dynamic adaptivity and applications to large scale problems in seismology, dynamic fracture, elastodynamics and metamaterials, as well as electromagnetism. A strong background in C++, MPI, and computational mechanics is required.
If interested, please send a brief statement of research interest and a CV including a list of potential references to elbanna2 at illinois dot edu
